Hello Fellow HIM Professionals! It is my pleasure to serve as your GAHIMA president for 2008-2009. I hope that this message finds you all doing well professionally and personally. As part of our strategic plan for this year, the GAHIMA Board and I are busy focusing on initiatives that will provide better communication, increase membership, and offer education in a variety of areas. It is our hope that these educational opportunities and networking events will enhance your professional and personal growth and development. Over the past couple of months, I have had the pleasure of meeting and hearing from HIM professionals who are new to our region. To all of our new members, I say “Welcome! As a member of GAHIMA, you are part of a growing base of HIM professionals that are leading the way in establishing key HIM initiatives and partnerships to advance the profession. As you may or may not know, we have 97 active members and 19 student members within 45 counties in the Greater Atlanta Region. Our association is a success because of all of you. However, we need everyone working together so that we can continue to be a productive, successful association.
If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering on our GAHIMA committees (legislative, membership, newsletter, nominating, program, and/or technology), please feel free to contact me or one of the GAHIMA Board members listed above. The GAHIMA board is committed to partnering with our members. That’s why we want to hear from you. Your feedback is important to us. Please take a moment and complete the online survey so that we may better serve you. In closing, I would like to thank all members who were able to attend the GAHIMA quarterly meeting on September 18, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Also, special thanks to all of our speakers, volunteers, and vendors for your support. Some of you were also able to attend our HI&T Week Celebration on November 6, 2008 at Eclipse de Luna in Atlanta, GA. It was such a pleasure to meet and mingle with all of you and to celebrate our success as HIM professionals. We had a blast!! Be sure to visit our website for news of upcoming meetings and events.
